Several construction projects were undertaken at the St. Regis Hotel. These included repairing the crawlspace, the moat retaining wall repair, and the townhouse.
The St. Regis Crawlspace project required a full-depth structural slab replacement between the lower-level kitchen and sub-basement crawlspace. The work involved rerouting the MEPs and the kitchen's commercial refrigeration compressor units in the work area.
The project included structural slab shoring, rigging, and raising the compressor units to remove the structural slab while maintaining the full-time operational integrity of the compressor units. As for the concrete, the floors were removed, the repairs were reinforced, and replacement structural slabs were poured back.
St. Regis' surrounding moat is used to access electrical and plumbing systems. The retaining wall needed repair. We performed partial depth repairs on the facility's below-grade moat and retaining wall. The retaining wall repair work included removing and repairing existing retaining wall surfaces and rigging and installing an engineered structural steel buttress system to achieve stabilization of the moat and retaining wall.
The St. Regis Crawlspace project was a significant undertaking and a testament to our commitment to maintaining the highest standards in construction and renovation. This project involved a meticulous full-depth structural slab replacement between the lower-level kitchen and the sub-basement crawlspace. We wanted to ensure minimal disruption to the hotel's operations while enhancing the structural integrity of this historic property.
A Detailed Approach to MEP Rerouting
One of the primary challenges of this project was the need to reroute mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems in the affected work area. Our skilled professionals collaborated closely with engineers and system specialists to ensure a seamless transition for all utilities. Special care was taken with the kitchen's commercial refrigeration compressor units, which required meticulous rigging and structural slab shoring for their safe removal.
Maintaining operational integrity was paramount during this phase. We implemented safety protocols, ensuring the compressor units remained fully functional throughout construction. This kind of detail-oriented planning sets our approach apart; we recognize that our client's operations must continue during construction.
Concrete Replacement: Reinforcing Structural Stability
We focused on concrete repairs once we successfully navigated the MEP systems. The existing floors were carefully removed to expose underlying issues, followed by intensive reinforcements to bolster the structural stability. After addressing all necessary repairs, we poured back replacement structural floor slabs that met both safety codes and performance expectations.
Our team completed these concrete works in the original timeframe while adhering strictly to industry standards—a key factor in upholding the quality expected at a prestigious establishment like The St. Regis Hotel.
Moat and Retaining Wall Repair: An Essential Component
Equally important to this project were the repairs made to St. Regis' surrounding moat and its retaining wall. This area serves as access for essential electrical and plumbing systems, making it imperative that these structures are functional and safe.
We undertook partial depth repairs on both the moat and retaining wall—an intricate process requiring thoughtful planning and execution. The retaining wall repair included removing damaged sections that revealed underlying challenges and necessitated specific engineering solutions. To stabilize these structures adequately, we designed and installed an engineered structural steel buttress system for maximum effectiveness.
This intervention ensures that surface aesthetics and structural integrity will withstand time while providing secure access points for utility maintenance.
Our Commitment to Excellence
The St. Regis crawlspace project exemplifies our dedication to construction and enhancing client relationships through communication and comprehensive planning strategies. By blending advanced engineering practices with hands-on craftsmanship, we have enabled our client—the prestigious St. Regis Hotel—to continue welcoming guests in a safe, comfortable environment.
A project like this showcases our commitment to excellence in commercial construction services. As always, we remain dedicated to delivering solutions that reflect our client's needs while respecting their operational requirements.
